CANOEING

I - COMPETITION

a) General Rules

This proposition of rules is the result of the meetings that took place during the Celtic Watersports Festivals in Asturias in 2000 and in Ireland in 2002. The delegates representing each region were concerned for combining activities, conviviality and competition.

A maximum number of 20 competitors is suggested to form a team.
This will not favour most numerous teams and organising countries.

Categories are as follows :

  • Junior Men's K1
  • Senior Men's K1
  • Junior Women's K1
  • Senior Women's K1
b) Sports competing :

  • Kayak sprinting and marathon,
  • Sea kayaking,
  • Polo,
  • Wave-skiing and kayak surf (the corresponding race programme is planned).
1 - Kayak sprinting and marathon
(the best boat in each team scores the points in its category)
  • Men's K1 junior in 500 m 3000 m
  • Men's K1 senior in 500 m 3000 m


  • Women's K1 junior in 500 m 3000 m
  • Women's K1 senior in 500 m 3000 m


  • Men's K2 junior and senior in 500 m 3000 m
  • Men's K2 junior and senior in 500 m 3000 m


  • Women's K2 junior and senior in 500 m 3000 m
  • Women's K2 junior and senior in 500 m 3000 m
2 - Sea Kayaking
(The two best boats of the team score points in each category)
  • Men's K1 junior
  • Men's K1 senior
  • Women's K1 junior
  • Women's K1 senior
3 - Polo
(mixed teams are allowed. They will be ranked among the men's category)
  • 1 Men team
  • 1 Women team
4 - Wave skiing, kayak surf
(the best boat of the team scores points in each category)

c) Competition rules

A sport will be open to competition only if there are at least two countries represented. The International rules will specify the rules applied during the competitions.

Sea

The distance of race at sea is : from 5 to10 miles for the first race, from 10 to 15 miles for the second race.

The organising country in relation to the national rules will give a list of compulsory safety equipment.

Any kind of boat is allowed as long as it complies with international standards that define the kayak and its propulsion mean.

The minimum equipments required are : Life line on the edge of the kayak, fore and aft watertight tank, 5m minimum towing line.

Fore and aft stoppers, compass.

Life jackets must be worn at all times during competitions.

Kayak sprinting and marathon

The International Rules will be applied.
The competition should rank the competitors from the first to the last in the different categories.

Polo

The International Rules will be applied.
The competition should rank the competitors from the first to the last in the different categories.

Wave skiing, kayak surf

The International Rules will be applied.
The competition should rank the competitors from the first to the last in the different categories.

II - SEA EXCURSION

Activity:

A two or three days sea excursion with bivouac will be suggested. It will be the occasion to discover the Bay of Morlaix. Each delegation can register as many participants as they wish. Teams will be requested to assure their own safety during the excursion and to follow the organizer's instructions.
